Ban on shisha - love it or hate it

Abu Dhabi/Fujairah: The Abu Dhabi government's decision to stop issuing licences for new shisha cafes has drawn kudos for protecting public health but shisha lovers, too, have come out in strength in support of the "symbol of the Middle East".

Owners of shisha cafes are not happy with the decision since it affects their growing business as it is becoming more popular and the number of shisha smokers is increasing. Moreover, many people consider it a traditional symbol of the Middle East.

City Talk took to the streets and asked residents whether they liked the decision or not and whether it would be useful for public health or was it just a ban on personal freedom. .

Audition home theater system before choosing

Q: I'm in the market for a new HD television, and I was wondering whether to consider a home theater projector instead of a flat-screen TV. I know that a projector can provide a much larger picture than a TV, but there must also be some drawbacks. Please advise.

A: As Ed McMahon said to Johnny Carson, "You are correct, sir!" Home theater projectors can cover a wall with a movie, turning your family room into a Cineplex. And the newest projectors are quite good indeed, offering picture quality that rivals LCD and plasma TVs.

The big downside of home theater projectors is price. To get the most out of high-def DVDs, you'll need a projector capable of displaying full HD (1080p). List prices for those start at well over $2,000. Figure an additional $200 to $500 for a screen, depending on the size (you could project directly on a wall, but that would compromise the picture).

Nearby businesses wondered about 'spa' clients

Business owners near a north Chandler spa police say was a front for prostitution had no solid evidence but a few clues something unusual may have been going on inside. "I suspected something might be going on," said Kurt Carmichael, owner of rental business Karaoke Sing-A-Long, next door to Blue Sky Spa. Both operate in a strip mall on the northwest corner of Dobson and Elliot roads. "The thing I noticed is that a lot of guys would go in and out of there," Carmichael said. "I never saw a woman." .

The Lincoln captain once bowled a 249 and said, sanctioned or not, that shell compete just as hard for her team this winter.
Everybody is making a big deal about it, but its not a concern to me right now, Letze said.
The activities directors of the Des Moines public schools decided on Dec. 5 to not join suburban schools this season. The city schools hoped to sanction this season teams could still do so after the season began but the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union requires that a coach certified by the organization lead the program.

Alleged co-conspirator to go to trial in Marshfield Columbine-style ...

When 18-year-old Joseph Nee went to police in 2004 to tell them about a classmate's plot to attack Marshfield High School, some people called him a hero.

But a month later, Nee was charged in connection with the plan he told police about, a plan that involved locking the school doors, setting off explosives and going hunting for students and teachers whom the plotters wanted dead.

Tobin Kerns, 19, was convicted three months ago and sentenced to serve 10 months in jail for his role in the massacre plot.

On Monday, Nee's trial is to begin, more than three years after he pleaded innocent to charges of conspiracy to commit murder, promotion of anarchy and threatening to use a deadly weapon at a school.

Nee, now 21, will be tried in Plymouth Superior Court in Brockton.

County renews airport consultant agreement; inks lease with PBCC

County commissioners have exercised the second one-year renewal option with CH2M Hill, Inc. for the continued performance of professional planning and design services related to the Palm Beach the improvement program at Palm Beach County Airports.

The original $2.5 million contract was approved in 2005, and six subsequent amendments increased it by $9 million. The renewal option has no financial impact, commissioners said.

PBCC Lease

In other airport news, commissioners have approved a short-term lease of property at Palm Beach International Airport (PBIA) to Palm Beach Community College (PBCC)

PBCC has actually used the property since 2001 for its Fire/EMS Training Program, but is in the process of finding a new location, creating the need for a new short-term lease, commissioners said.
