1) I agree with your take. 2) From what I have read, I would concur that MOST scientists believe there is some effect, but the degree of which is the main point of contention and subject to many more years of study. 3) I am on your side. I want my home in the next 2 -5 years to be equipped with a 7000Wph solar generation with grid tie-in, and I want to be charging my electric car in my garage. 4) My main position is that AGW science is not settled. I am against alarmism, against the idea that only 1st world nations should participate, and against the idea of paying more tax to partake in what should be a capital budget item. I believe in prioritization of current revenues vs: picking the pocket of the taxpayer. Posted 14/12/07 at 3:14 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .
Traveling Workers Told to Trim Expenses
Faced with a weakening economy, more companies are targeting travel and entertainment expenses. "Everyone's starting to think about what's going to happen if there's an economic downturn," says Adam Weissenberg, who heads Deloitte's travel industry consulting division. .
No rain check from Hotwire
I called Hotwire and asked if they would allow me to take a rain check for another weekend. I was told, “no." So my friend and I drove down there in the storm. When we checked in, the power was out and the computer system was down. The “oceanfront" room we reserved was not available because of the rain leaking into the rooms and saturating the carpets. We were given a parking-lot view on the third floor. We went up to our floor and as we got off the elevator, it was about 80 degrees with a very bad odor, probably because of the power outage earlier that evening. .
The Palazzo needs pizazz
The stay: It's calm and cozy inside the luxurious suites, but the hotel's generic qualities will have you looking for fun elsewhere. Dealmaker: Every room is a tricked-out suite, and in a 50-story tower, most have views. Deal breaker: Until all the spas, restaurants, shops and pools are done, the room rates compare badly with other luxe resorts. Basics: 3325 Las Vegas Blvd. S.; introductory rates from $199 to $499 a night (1-866-263-3001; www.palazzolastvegas.com). .
Wal-Mart: Fashioning a New Growth Track
Burt Flickinger III, managing director of New York retail consultant Strategic Resource Group, has been a Wal-Mart shareholder for three decades. He says the company's sales growth rates aren't keeping up with the three indicators every retailer should beat: the inflation rate, which is currently just under 3%; the 1% rate of population growth in the country, and the increase in square footage, which grew 8.4% last year at Wal-Mart. "It's pathetic," says Flickinger. Customers are giving Wal-Mart lower marks these days, as well. A yearly survey of customer satisfaction by the University of Michigan, released on Feb. 19, shows the retailer scored the lowest among 10 large discount and department-store chains. Wal-Mart's satisfaction rating this year was 68 on a scale of zero-to-100, down 5.6% from a year ago.

After spending Christmas with his family in Vittoria (Sicily), Italy, where he accumulated 2000 kilometres of training, 'Napo' is currently in Spain where he will pass the new year and build a base for the coming season. He is stationed in Gran Canaria of the Canary Islands with team-mates Fabio Baldato, Mauro Santambrogio and Daniele Righi, and their directeur sportif, Fabio Bontempi. "It is not a phase of preparation in which the presence of a directeur is detrimental," confirmed Bontempi to Tuttosport. "In the past years some of of our other riders have managed their own training in the Canaries over the New Year." The riders are averaging 120 kilometres a day, and will remain on the island until January 10. Napolitano will make his season debut with the sprint-friendly Tour of Qatar, January 27.
Dems: What About the Military Budget?
I remember in Oct. or Nov., 2002, we were in San Jose, Ca. listening to www.kpfa.org on the car radio and Michael C. Ruppert was talking about our government massing a hugh military force in the Middle East to invade Iraq. I pulled over and listened to him for the rest of the show. He knew! Mike was loaded with facts and figures, not theories. Chalmers Johnson has been telling us also, but the public has been mesmerized again with false hope in the upcoming election. As you know, I was a Kucinich supporter, but now will vote my Green Party's candidate in November. If enough of us want progressive officials to represent us, we should vote for the people who have taken their time to run for office to represent us. ( is that reduntant? ) .
Attorney wants death row ruling immediately
If Rothgery rules that Smith is retarded, Smith, who was convicted in the 1994 murder of a police informant, could not be executed. Rothgery held hearings on the matter in late 2006 and early 2007 and also has received several briefs from both sides in the case, but hasn't issued a ruling yet, according to court records. Smith first began pushing the mental retardation argument in 2003, according to records. “We think we're entitled to a ruling and if Mr. Smith shouldn't be on death row, he shouldn't be on death row," said Alan Rossman, one of Smith's attorneys. But Rothgery said he has a busy docket and isn't going to rush a decision. “I'm going to make the decision when I make the decision. It's a very complicated case with a lot of detailed evidence," he said. “I'm not going to be pushed into making a decision until I'm ready." Luc Lecavalier, the psychologist who examined Smith for the defense, testified last year that he determined Smith's IQ was 69, one point lower than the state's threshold for execution.
Traveler Alert: New Rules for Paying
Not too long ago, charging your way through a vacation abroad was the way to go. That's because credit cards have more favorable exchange rates and fees than banks and exchange bureaus. But new markups have made the charge-it strategy trickier. Many credit-card issuers have tripled the charges for foreign billings. They've been quietly adding new fees for the past few years--so quietly that consumers have sued Visa, MasterCard, and American Express, saying the markups were not properly disclosed. (Card issuers are now starting to break out the extra charges on statements.) .
